The growth and nutrient assimilation was evaluated in CaCl2- and CaSO4-supplemented cowpea plants subjected to salt stress (75 mM NaCl). The salinity significantly reduced the cowpea vegetative growth. The addition of CaCl2 in the growth medium did not significantly affect plant growth, while for the CaSO4, the beneficial effects of Ca2+ were moderate. Salinity increased the Na+, K+, Cl-, N and P content in the plants, however it decreased the content of Ca2+ and Mg2+. Increases in Ca2+ concentration in the nutrient solution caused decreases in the Na+ and Mg2+ contents and increases in Ca2+, K+, P, and Cl- contents. Objetivou-se com este trabalho caracterizar o efeito de diferentes temperaturas sobre a distribuição de Na+, Cl- e K+ em raízes, caules e folhas de feijão caupi pré-tratadas com NaCl. Após o período de aclimatação as plantas foram divididas em 2 grupos: 0 NaCl e 100 mM de NaCl por 2 dias. Posteriormente, as plantas foram divididas em 4 subgrupos e submetidas a temperaturas crescentes de 27, 32, 37 e 42 ºC, separadamente, por um fotoperíodo de 12 h para cada temperatura. Thrips are still poorly known in cowpea, Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp., in Piauí, despite their economic importance in this crop, which stands out as one of the major cultures of North and Northeast regions from Brazil. Thus, this study aimed to identify the thrips species associated to the crop in Teresina and Bom Jesus, Piauí, Brazil. From October 2007 to August 2008, cowpea inflorescences were sampled in the municipalities by the technique of simple bagging. A busca de estirpes de bactérias diazotróficas simbióticas tolerantes à salinidade, em conjunto com a seleção de hospedeiros, tem por objetivo aumentar o desempenho da simbiose e manter a produtividade vegetal de forma sustentada em condições de estresse salino. Doze estirpes de bactérias diazotróficas de diferentes procedências foram estudadas quanto à tolerância a diferentes concentrações de NaCl em meios de cultura 79 e LB. Realizou-se este trabalho com o objetivo de estudar os efeitos da aplicação de água salina nos diferentes estádios de desenvolvimento de plantas de feijão-de-corda sobre as trocas gasosas, o crescimento e os teores de minerais. O experimento foi conduzido no campo e obedeceu o delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com cinco tratamentos e cinco repetições. In Brazil, the cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp], is important in the Northeast Region, where it is typically grown on family farms. The importance of the damage caused to the seed quality of this species by stored pests has been described in various studies. Using X-ray, it is possible to see the internal seed structures and identify possible changes and damage. ABSTRACT: This study aimed to determine weed interference periods in semi-erect and semi-prostrate cowpea cultivars. Two simultaneous experiments were conducted with the cowpea cultivars BRS Guariba (semi-erect) and BRS Aracê (semi-prostrate). The experimental design was a randomized block design with four replications in a 7 × 2 factorial scheme, seven periods × two weed management (control and coexistence).
